Pinewood Derby!!
|
It's officially one of the most exciting times of year for our scouts! That's right, it is once again, time for the Pinewood Derby!! Everyone should be well on their way in creating their own special car to race down the track this month. Designing, creating, and painting our own special creations are what we each look forward to this time of year. Remember, it is not whether our car wins or loses, however, it is how we came together as scouts and families and enjoyed successfully making something out of literally nothing!! Enjoy the process and see you at the races soon!!!

January's Core Value of the Month is "Positive Attitude" ... "Being cheerful and setting our minds to look for and find the best in all situations. As boys participate in various activities, they will come to understand that all things change and they can make a difference in how that change affects their lives. A positive outlook will provide hope and excitement for their future."

CUB SCOUTING
The Boy Scouts of America was founding way back in 1910 with Cub Scouting coming 20 years later in 1930. The program helps boys who are in the first through fifth grades year round by providing them with age-appropriate activities designed to develop their personal character. Volunteers mostly parents work together to achieve the purposes of Cub Scouting.
The ten purposes of Cub Scouting are: Character Development, Spiritual Growth, Good Citizenship, Sportsmanship, Family Understanding, Respectful Relationships, Personal Achievement, Friendly Service, Fun and Adventure, and Preparation for Boy Scouts.
Boys who participate in Cub Scouting join a Pack and are assigned a den, which consist of a group of six to eight boys. The den is an age appropriate level - Tiger Cubs (first-graders), Wolf Cub Scouts (second-graders), Bear Cub Scouts (third-graders), and Webelos Scouts (fourth- and fifth-graders) - these dens normally meet bi-monthly.
Once every month all of the dens, along with their respective family members get together for a pack meeting under the direction of the Cubmaster and pack committee. This committee is comprised of parents of the boys and members of the chartered organization.
"The spirit is there in every boy; it has to be discovered and brought to light."
"Loyalty is a feature in a boy's character that inspires boundless hope."
"A boy carries out suggestions more wholeheartedly when he understands their aim."
"The sport in Scouting is to find the good in every boy and develop it."
"The most worth-while thing is to try to put happiness into the lives of others."
Baden Powell : 22 February, 1857 - 8 January, 1941
